Compare Flights To South Africa

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

There are a number of ways to compare flights to South Africa. That is, you can use a variety of online and offline methods. having written a number of reviews about flights to and around South Africa I can suggest how you can compare them.

That is, using a free flight finder tool

This tool will display a list of all possible flights with a single search. There is no need to sift through a number of pages and visiting each flight’s website to check the time and prices. It’s all in one place. The nice thing about the flight finder tool is it even allows you to make bookings once you find the flight you want.

So the first bit of information that you enter using a people finder tool is the airport where you will taking off from. Some of the best tools will even provide you with a list of all airports from your country of departure. You can then quickly choose from the list.

The next detail that you enter is your destination which is South Africa in your case. You will have to choose one of the 3 international airports in the country i.e Cape Town, Durban and OR Tambo airport in Johannesburg. Johannesburg is usually the destnination for most people. Actually even the flights whose eventual destination is Cape Twon or Durban go via Johannesburg.

From there you can then choose your date of departure and the return date. There is usually a calendar you can use on the site to check the dates. Then you state the number of people you will be traveling with. In some cases you will be asked to specify by age i.e. how many adults, children 0 – 23 months, 2 – 11 yeas and 12 – 15 years.

From there you simply hit the search button and the tool will search through its database for all available flights. Within a short space of time you have a list containing all relevant information and you can use that to then compare.

You will find information concerning departure and arrival times, times for stop overs, the air fares and so on all you have to do is visit any one of these: 1time Flights South Africa Flights Manchaster To Cape Town Cheap Flights From From Durban To London

An Aquarium Pulls In A Lot Of Visitors

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Some of the great cities in the world have some of the great aquariums of the world. These facilities usually draw many visitors because of the fantastic creatures that swim about inside. The visitors are often the local people, but a great aquarium also attracts tourists to the city to see these wonderful creatures. Some of these attractions are better than others, but all aquariums have interesting creatures. A good aquarium will usually have beautiful fish of all shapes and sizes that give the visitors a glimpse of a world that many would not get to see without these facilities. A good aquarium is full of opportunity. Some of the creatures in these facilities could be easily viewed by divers with the proper equipment, but others who do not have the means to dive into the sea would never be able to view these sea creatures up close without the facilities of a great aquarium. Divers are given some opportunities in one of these shows that they could not do without these facilities. In one of these facilities, everyone can view even dangerous creatures such as sharks up close. The people who enter an aquarium can see many different types of sharks swimming about under the water. However for those interested in aquarium stands click through and have a look. Whilst some people love anything on the topic of freshwater aquarium fish is a personal favourite.

An Aquarium Is Built For Spectators An aquarium is designed so the visitors get a great look at the creatures that live naturally under the sea. These facilities often have glass on more than one side of a gigantic tank so people can watch as these creatures swim about and interact with other creatures in the tank. The people who visit get a chance to see the creatures from the sea as they feed as well. The fish are usually housed in environments that resemble their natural habitats so there are also plants from the deep. Whilst its possible to have a fish tank at home, you will never get the full range of fish available at an aquarium. A public aquarium can hold tanks with millions of gallons of water, and many of the public facilities have some extremely large tanks. The sizes of tanks determines what types of fishes that can be seen. A great variety of fishes can be viewed by public visitors at bigger facilities. Clichk here for more information on fish aquariums.

Educational groups are often offered tours and lectures by these facilties. Lots of school children that study about the creatures in their books at school are given the chance to get to visit these facilities to learn more about the creatures. The real fish are usually much more interesting than the ones viewed in pictures in a textbook.

Dog Separation Anxiety and Crating Your Dog

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

I highly recommend that all dog owners crate their dogs.   Some people believe that crating your dog is cruel. This is totally wrong.Instinctually, dogs feel safe in their den. It is a greate way to give them a place to sleep and relax.Dogs in their den tend to be calm and settled.I strongly advise you to crate your dog.  It will help with canine separation anxiety

There are a couple of added benefits to crating your dog separation anxiety.  The first thing that crating your dog gives you is peace of mind while you are gone.  As long as you make sure the crate is big enough for them to stand up and lay down sideways, they will be comfortable. Before you put your dog in the crate, make sure you take of their collar.  Collars can get stuck in both wire and Vari-Kennel crates.   Unfortunately, dogs have died from this.

If your dog has chewed up your carpet, couch or cupboards, the most sure-fire way to make sure it doesn’t happen anymore put your dog in its crate while you are gone.   If you have dog that chews their crate, you can coat those spots in bitter apple, or hot pepper sauce.    If you have a dog that can break out of their crate, you simply need a stronger crate. Some people have to buy aluminum crates to hold their dogs.

Another good thing about leaving your dog in a crate is it is less likely to go to the bathroom at home. A dog will do its best not to soil its den.  If your dog has severe separation anxiety, and has accidents in the house, a crate is a great way to avoid these accidents in the first place, or at least minimize the damage and clean up to just the crate.

Most dogs accept crates quickly and learn to love them! I recommend providing a crate for your dog for it’s lifetime. You can always remove the door once your puppy has grown up and can be trusted. Of course, if your dog has separation anxiety, you’ll want to keep that door on!

Dog separation anxiety can develop into a major, expensive problem when left untreated.  Be sure to spend the time to get the issues solved now!

Pet Birds On The Move

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

Pet birds are very sensitive in moving or changing locations.  Small changes in the rooms can make a big impact on birds and can even stress them out.  But sometimes moving is inevitable and travelling is unavoidable.  There would be times when you cannot afford not to move.  How can you make moving and travelling easy on your pet birds?

To make changing addresses easier on your pets, here are some tips to lessen stress:

• Moving is extremely stressful not just for pet owners but also for the pets as well.  The birds will sense that something is going on just by seeing you packing and getting busy.  This would already start the stress, so you can talk to your bird and explain things.  Seeing your assuring face will somehow ease the stress.Your pets may not be able to understand you , however they read and understand your body movements. When you are calm, they would also remain calm.  It would be better to move your bird in a quiet and secure place while finishing the rest of the packing.

• Your companionship with your bird will give you hints if your pet bird is more sensitive than other birds.  You can identify if your bird is a nervous traveller.  There are also some birds who find riding a vehicle very enjoyable.

• Once the movers are already in your house and picking up your things, put the bird away in a quiet and calm place.  Your pet bird should be the last to leave and should be in travel bird cages.  Upon arriving in the new home, put the bird in a quiet place first before bringing the boxes and the things inside your home.  To relax and calm the bird, you can play some music.  This would also lessen the sounds coming from the unpacking.

• If moving to a new place requires a long drive, the stops should be kept to minimum.  You can just buy food at a drive-thru.  If you prefer eating in a restaurant, consider the weather conditions when leaving your pet in the car. They may not be comfortable if they are left inside since it may be too hot or cold.

If you are moving from one state to another , it wold certainly need a very long move.  You also have to check the state regulations about your pets.  Sometimes, a certain state might have laws that could prohibit your bird, especially if you are taking care of an exotic bird.

Check hotels or motels you would be sleeping in if they have pet regulations, when you go for a long distance.  They can charge additional for bringing pets.  You do not want to leave your pet outside in the car at the mercy of predators.

• Also when moving, whether it s state to state or just to another city, make sure to have a health certificate from your veterinarian.  You would find this handy when getting a new vet in the new location you have moved to.

When travelling with your pets, preparation is an important factor. It will need you to prepare well, if you want to go for flying.   Make sure that the airlines you are flying with allow birds, if it is international flight birds are mostly placed in cargo area.  You have to make sure that the birds are comfortable throughout the flight.

Actually, you can help your pet get used to travelling, you can take it out in short day trips. It is kept in the mind that bird should not be kept in the front seat when going for a long drive with it.  If the air bag suddenly opens, the impact could result to severe, even fatal, injuries.

When taking your pet bird out in car, be sensitive.  There are some birds who prefer to have the cage covered, while there are some birds who would like to know what is happening around him.  Be careful with the noise inside the car like the music and also be careful of the fumes they can inhale like air fresheners or cigarette smoke.

When travelling or moving, it is important to make sure that your pet birds are comfortable throughout the travelling period.

Way To Understand Your Pet Bird’s Behaviour

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

A pet and the owner relationship does not just evolve around feeding and cleaning the cage, it is companionship and friendship which is based on loyalty and trust.  How can you build this kind of relationship, with your pet bird in this case, if your pet keeps on biting you?

The key here is to understand your pet bird’s behaviourand body language.  Since we cannot understand what their vocalizations mean, we can understand what they want and they are feeling through their movements.   Ability to communicate between owners and pets enable the owners to train, tame and care for them adequately.

Here are some bird movements and how we can interpret them:

• Flashing or dilating pupils can either mean aggression or excitement and pleasure.  When pupils are dilated pay attention to other movements like tail fanning or raised feathers and some growling, these are aggressive signs.  So beware of contact, you may get bitten.

• Purring, on the other hand, along with relaxed and puffed up feathers means that your bird is in a good mood.

The sign of good feeling and contentment is grinding of its beak whereas when it feels some kind of threat it clicks the beak.

• Biting reasons depend on the age.  A young bird would most of the time bite anything especially during its “teething age”.  An older bird biting is a sign of displeasure or aggression.

• Birds sneeze the same reasons human do, like exposure to dust, irritation, small bug and feathers on the nasal cavity.  An abnormal sneeze, which typically includes nasal discharge should be consulted immediately to a vet.
• Head shaking is not associated with disbelief in cases of birds.  This means excitement or just seeking out attention.

• Quivering wings would should fear or being nervous.  Assurance is needed when talking to these kind of birds. There is no reason for them to get nervous with you, this you got to convince.

• Tail bobbing sometimes can be a sign of sickness or just singing. When the tail bobs while the bird breathes, then that could be a sign of sickness and should be taken to the vet.

There would be instances when pet owners would be exasperated with their pets because of their bad behaviour.  There are many reasons why birds would act the way they are.  Hormones can be responsible if your bird is displaying negative characteristics.

Birds mature too! Just like people, they would undergo a stage where they would sexually mature.  During the stage where they begin to be sexually mature, birds begin to be very sensitive.  This stage differs on the bird size.  Normally, big birds would have this on their fourth year.  While, smaller birds would experience this on their twelfth month.

Also, observe your pet birds if something is bothering them.  If there are some items in the house that are starting to bother them then remove it from the space. Birds are sensitive to routine, some changes on it can be stressful for them. Also, paying enough attention to your pet and letting them stretch their wings more through exercise are great ways of improving bird behaviour.

Pet birds are extremely rewarding and wonderful companion, it is important to display or show the understanding and patience.  In every relationship, understanding is the key.  So does in animal and human relationship.

Here Your Pet Birds Are Star Of The Show

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

Your birds not only served as feathered companions, for years they have played a great role in inspiring some of the most popular songs, movies, and even fashion.  Pet birds do not just display their feathers for their owners and family but are also muses for works of art.

In the music industry, here are some popular songs about birds and what they were about:

• Three Little Birds -  this song was by Bob Marley and is a very upbeat tune that you would surely love listening to.

• Blackbird – the song popularized by Beatles defeated the usual misconception about blackbirds.  Blackbirds are usually taken in a bad way but was used as a symbol of hope in this song.

• Rockin’ Robin – who would not know this song by Bobby Day?  This popular song can be both enjoyed by you and your feathered friend.

• Free as a Bird – another Beatles song which refers to bird’s freedom.

• Yellow Bird – this song by Chris Isaak is full of emotions and is about being free and flying away from problems.

It seems that people cannot get enough out of birds, unsatisfied with songs about their flying ability and other characteristics, birds became subject of movies and documentaries.

The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill was released in 2003.This movie was a touching documentary of a rock musician who turned into a conure caretaker in San Francisco was directed by Judy Irving.   This movie is great for bird and non-bird enthusiasts.  In the documentary, not only did Mark Bittner help in preserving the flock of birds, these birds also helped him find his personal and professional path.

In 2005, the March of the Penguins guided us to a wonderful and educational world of emperor penguins.  This documentary won the 2005 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. The penguins were dubbed as if they were talking themselves in the original French version of the documentary.  In the American version, it was narrated by Morgan Freeman. This documentary is all about the survival of the emperor penguins in extremely hard condition.

Fictional bird movies would include Paulie (1998) and The Real Macaw (1997).  Most of these fictional movies would be about the adventures and misadventures of birds and their pet owners, who are usually children.

Other than gracing our silver screen they were also features for some great photographs. Bird photography is one of the most popular kinds of nature photography.  Bird photography, especially taking pictures of birds in the wild is very challenging.  Bird photographers should not only know the technical aspect of taking pictures but should also be knowledgeable and understanding of bird behaviour.

But domesticated birds can also post as models.  You just have to know how to set up your background and engage your bird so you can easily them pictures.  Just make sure when taking pictures to take several snap shots so that you can choose the best one.

Speaking of bird models, our avian friends have also served inspiration for some interesting fashion.   Designer Caroline Baker has shown bird- inspired clothing in the Charleston Fashion Week last March 2009.   She have referred to her fashion line, the Plumage Collection,  as “eco couture.”  The collection was consisted of 14  bird inspired outfits.

It looks like of feathered friends are not only pets after all.  The next time we look at our pet bird, maybe they could serve as inspiration for us to make a work of art.

Attracting Wild Birds to Your Garden

Monday, January 4th, 2010

You can attract the wild birds in lots of different ways. The easiest is to provide the food they like and a safe place for them to feed. Garden bird feeders are ideal for providing food for them. They are really helpful to the birds during the winter when food is hard to find.

Many different species can be attracted by providing their favorite foods. Feeders specially designed to hold the thistle seeds loved by finches can be bought. Seeds can be kept dry with tube feeders which also prevent any spillage. Watch the birds feed from the comfort of you home with a window bird feeder.

You can buy specially designed feeders for goldfinches, woodpeckers and hummingbirds. Place them somewhere safe and close to your birdhouse. Mold can grow on damp food so check daily that the food is dry. Clean up any spilled food around the feeder regularly to deter ants and wasps and other predators.

It is most beneficial to feed the birds in the winter but food can be in short supply at other times of the year too. You can help the birds by putting out food all year around which will help when shortages occur. Temporary food shortages in the breeding season can have a severe effect on fledglings so provide them with with suitable food.

Pans of water or garden bird baths should be provided to give them a safe place to drink, bathe and preen their feathers. Water at different levels should be provided as some species like to bathe at ground level, others higher. Containers should only be filled to a few inches and should be placed some way away from the noise around bird feeders. The sounds of running water will be attractive to the birds. You can attract birds by placing a water dripper on your bird bath.

Increase the wild birds sense of security by providing a natural environment in an area of the garden. You can make an attractive place for them by allowing an area of the garden to grow wild.

Dog Breeds

Monday, January 4th, 2010

{Choosing the best dog breeds to adapt at your cozy home can be a daunting question; especially if you haven t adapted a dog beforeIf it is the first time you are thinking of adapting a puppy, choosing the best dog breeds can be tricky}. Children are the ones who are almost always interested in adapting a dog but little do they know about dog breeds that are friendlier and suitable for home fronts and those dog breeds that are not.

It is a known common fact that some dog breeds tend to become jealous towards children in search of attention and that could be dangerous in a household depending on the age of your children. So read up on every possible detail you can gather about different dog breeds before adapting a dog.

American kennel society has recognized over 150 dog breeds including working dogs, companion dogs and more. remember that dog breed have characteristics of their own and they come in to play. Whilst dogs can be the best friends for humans, it is also important to consider the aspects that might go wrong when adapting a specific dog breed.

You will find some dogs being more territorial than other dogs while some other dog breeds being friendlier in nature. Some dog breeds require a single master who will have the control over the dog s behavior and know how to discipline them. A perfect example of such single master dogs are guard dogs used by police.

One more important thing you should know about dog breeds is that some dogs know how to boss around people and know whom to obey. One more thing you should focus on when selecting dog breeds is the general temperament of the breed and grooming.

If the dog breeds you choose have a average temperament then that means they are easy to discipline and they d probably make good friends with children. If not, they could be used as custodial dogs.

Dog Grooming is a hassle for many dog owners but if you check all relevant information about dog breeds before you make the choice of buying a certain dog breed, then you will know what to expect. Generally, the long hair types are difficult to maintain while the shorthaired ones are easier to get by.

You may want to familiarize yourself with different grooming techniques depending on the dog breeds you wish to adapt.

How To Stop A Dog From Whining

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

When your dog whines he is attempting to communicate. One of the first actions a dog learns is to whine. A hungry puppy will whine to let its mother know that it is hungry. When its mother feeds the puppy the puppy learns that whining produces the desired result.

A puppy will continue to whine when it is distressed or requires attention as it grows into a dog. A puppy is often one of a litter and will feel a sense of belonging to its brothers or sisters. If it becomes separated from its litter it will whine as a sign of its distress and to let the litter know that it needs to be rescued.

When the puppy has to leave its litter to join your family it may feel extreme distress at being removed from its familiar surroundings and former family. It whines to let you know that it is distressed.

This is the time to begin training your dog not to whine. If you pay attention to its whines you are reinforcing this action and the dog continues to understand that if it whines it receives attention. On the other hand it is important that you have taken care of the dog’s needs before you try to stop a dog from whining. Make sure that your dog is comfortable and has a supply of food and plenty of fresh water and is not trying to communicate to you that he is thirsty. Have your dog seen by a vet if it whines when running, eating or gong to the toilet.

You must not neglect your dog and you must spend time with him and play with him. Reinforce his good behavior by spending time with him when he is being quiet and good.

Your dog may suffer from separation anxiety one it has adjusted to you and you leave it alone. Separation anxiety in dogs is not uncommon. Remember that dogs are naturally pack animals and it may feel quite anxious when you leave it. If your dog is put outside before you go out try spending a few moments with it in its outside world and make sure you leave toys for it to play with while you’re out. The dog will soon learn that he can have fun outside, as well.

Pay attention to your dog’s whines and you’ll begin to understand what he is trying to tell you and why. Perhaps your dog could be trying to let you know that he is hungry or thirsty, hot or cold, bored and lonely or wanting to go outside, or he may be in pain.

Provide plenty of exercise and stimulation for your dog. Your dog is a sociable animal and you should take him for walks, play with him and take him to dog parks so that he can learn to socialize with other dogs. Dogs are intelligent creatures and require stimulation or they can become bored. A bored dog may whine for attention.

Tend to your dog’s needs and don’t let him manipulate you with his whining. You will soon learn to recognize the difference between a dog’s genuine needs and his need to get your attention.  Reinforce good dog behavior. Give him the love and attention that he deserves when the whining has stopped and he will soon learn that his whines do not produce the results that he wants.
