The Value Of Christian Counseling Centers

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

The significance of Christian counseling centers is highly underrated by many Christian authorities. The world today is becoming more and more complicated.  Society is presenting us with many moral situations where we have to make unpopular and difficult decisions. The current economic condition is placing stress on families and marriages.

In the Bible in the book of Proverbs, chapter 24 verses 5 & 6 it says “A wise man has great power, and a man of knowledge increases strength; for waging war you need guidance, and for victory many advisers.” We are advised in God’s word to seek counsel. It goes on to say in verse 7 “Wisdom is too high for a fool.” We are foolish not to.

Some value the accumulation of knowledge, but Paul pointed out to the Colossians in chapter one verses 9 – 14 that knowledge in itself is empty. To be worth anything, it must lead to a changed life and right living. Paul prayed for the Colossians “asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way; bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father…”

Christian counseling centers were developed to give a Christian the ways and means of overcoming the difficult situations that may arise in their lives.  Counseling for debt, career guidance, families, and premarital are all now available.

These Christian counseling centers and resources available to the Christian today should be biblically based. The best resource for Christian living is in the Bible.

If you are one of the broken, or a Christian couple desiring to get married, a couple already married, or if you are struggling with singleness or striving to have better relationships in your family, contact one of these sources of Christian for counseling. Seek out one that has been recommended to you and most importantly, Biblically based. You are an important member of the Christian body. It is important to get the help and healing needed. Someday you may in turn be able to help someone else through your testimony of recovery.

Qualifications for Christian Counseling

Christian counseling has to be a calling. If you feel you are called into this field or this type of ministry it is recommended you enroll in some Christian counseling courses. Especially if you feel your gift may be in Christian debt counseling. If you are on the other end of the spectrum and you are considering seeking counsel it is equally advisable to research the background of the various Christian counseling that is available to you whether you locate it online, in your neighborhood or through your church.

Be Called to Christian Counseling

Many pastors and others in the clergy believe that counseling is a gift from God. I am sure most Christians would agree with that statement. Even though that may be true, it is still advisable to receive some education in this area. Having a license, degree or other type of certification lends credibility to your chosen career. It would also provide insights into various situational problems and human behavior.

Earning the Degree

The Bible has many examples of great men anointed to counsel and lead others.  It also demonstrates the results of those who seek counsel from the ungodly. In Leviticus Moses anoints Aaron and his sons.

“The Lord said to Moses , ‘Bring Aaron and his sons, their garments, the anointing oil, the bull for the sin offering, the two rams and the basket containing bread made without yeast, and gather the entire assembly at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.’ Moses did as the Lord commanded him, and the assembly gathered at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.” (NKJ)

College leaders and professors will acknowledge before others, just as Moses anointed Aron and his sons, that you have demonstrated through your studies and actions, that you have been called to counsel others.

Do Your Research

Using Christian Career Counseling

If you are a Christian looking for a new job or a Christian college student just graduating you may need to visit a Christian career counseling center for some wise advice. There may be one available at your church or school. They administer a few tests to determine what your gifts and strong points are to get you going in the right direction. This will save you time dropping off resumes at locations that may not be well suited for you.

Christian Pre Marriage Counseling

Investing in a few sessions of Christian premarital counseling just may be the wisest investment that you will make as a Christian couple.  Through a short course you will discover great tools to enhance your marriage.  Things like your differences and likenesses, ways to deal with difficult situations that may, and more than likely will, arise during your lifetime together.

Christian Marriage Counselors

Seeking for Christian marriage counselors is the wisest thing to do at the first sign of problems.  Living in the world today couples are bombarded from every side with temptations and distractions.  It is no surprise that so many Christian marriages fail. Christian marriage counselors can be found at your church or your fellowship may be able to recommend a professional Christian marriage counselor if they do not have one on staff.  Do not end a marriage without first seeking help and advice.

Seek direction from your pastor.  They are usually very qualified as a Christian marriage counselor.  He may feel you need to visit a professional and will be able to recommend one for you.  Personal testimonials or references are the best way to choose a counselor.  Saving your marriage is the ultimate desired result.

If the fees for counseling are a challenge for you talk to the counselor. I am sure they can work out a payment plan or fee that may be more acceptable. They realize that finances can cause pressure on a recent college graduate, newlywed or married couple with children. Your life’s goals and trials are God’s concern also and He wants you to succeed as much as you do.

Christian Counseling Debt and The Bible

“The king was filled with pity for him, and he released him and forgave his debt.” Matthew 18:27

Is debt biblical? It is not a sin to be in indebtedness but the Bible does speak a lot about being good stewards of what we have been given. The greater sin is being too proud to admit your condition and your current financial state and seek help or counsel. There are Christian counseling centers to help with Christian debt elimination. The sooner help is sought the sooner bills and debts can be corralled and brought under restraint. It is a humbling experience to go through, but you are not alone. We learn from our trials to better serve the Lord and to strengthen our faith. If you have a financial situation do not wait to seek Christian Counseling Debt because someday you may be able give spiritual or financial aid  to a fellow Christian, friend or co-worker.

“The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.”
Proverbs 22:7

We are called to spend wisely. Often times we see ourselves in debt for very good reasons. There could be an illness, rendering you unable to work. In these precarious times, we are seeing more and more people being laid off or hours cut substantially. There are regular monthly payments that are due and we may find we do not enough to pay them. Sometimes credit cards are used to pay bills and the debt begins to build. It can become overwhelming and a Christian debt elimination service may be needed.

Pray First

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24

Take everything to the Lord in prayer.  Does this mean all things you pray for will be granted?  The Lord always answers our prayers, not in the way we may have expected or in the same time frame we expect. Jesus prayed when He was on earth.  He prayed while in the wilderness as well as in the Garden of Gethsemane.  Jesus prayedif it is possible may this cup be taken from me..  He still had to go through what He was sent to do, die for our sins and transgressions.  We may still have to prevail some trials for the situation we are in, but He has promised to take care of us.
